39;s easy to make a buck. 39;s very many tougher to make a difference. ~Tom Brokaw This story or blog is dedicated to past worldwide volunteers who have gone abroad. It is a testament to their work in different third world countries. It shall also be a brief glimpse of their lives while they were working, their experiences, good or bad; disappointments; living conditions; the region they can be in; advice to future or potential volunteers and the view regarding the volunteering.
The testimonials are from volunteers who worked for a week to the people who have worked for years. The testimonies have been edited to fit the articles or blog. Here are the testimonies:Sandra Rzeszutko -USAKenya is a wonderful country; I enjoyed the weather immensely and was impressed with the pretty scenery and wonderful people. My host family was perfect, I grew to like for them all very deeply and hope to look them repeatedly someday. Culturally, I located the mini city I lived in to be lacking in modern cutting edge designs for example running h2o we used a well and that little people had refrigerators.
I should confess I had doubts about being can cope, but within 24 hours I was totally comfortable, due mostly to my host family and the city residents. Everyone was friendly and I was greeted by all. Despite originally visiting Kenya for wildlife, I should speak I was most impressed with the people. They can be extremely hard working, very proud and considerate of others. I was humbled by how little amenities they had yet they live contented in what I regarded to be hardship.
I learned to like seeing simple things like women paw washing clothes, carrying babies on their return and old men gathered for a play of checkers. Daniel Dickerson - USAThe people of Ghana are many more friendly and welcoming than I expected. During my wait I did not skills development a lone situation where I was created to look uncomfortable. The gracious nature regarding the people here appears to result of or at fewest enhanced by the active participation by most people in place of prayer programs. Many schools are responsible by the Methodist, Presbyterian or Follower of jesus Church.
two of my highlights during our wait in Ghana was attending a regional place of prayer and being welcomed by the entire congregation. The region itself is from ocean to mountains and throughout the lush vegetation. The weather is warm but not intolerable, mostly within the mountain. Our host family truly created us feels as if we were component of their family. They took like of us well.
Jessica De Vos - AustralianThe regional staff Southern Africa was very helpful. The project was different to what I expected but then I grew to have knowledge of the children more and what kind of lives they live then I began enjoying it and had the feeling I was helping more. I ponder the skills development was worthwhile and I enjoyed every minute of it. Meeting people from different cultures is one regarding the perks, lifestyles, fitting in with regional life, spending time with an alternate family, learning about different societies, teaching and playing and loving the children. This program I should agree is very worth the money and is an excellent skills development to reveal my mind and learn about different people and cultures.
Thanks for all your help throughout the past monthsKatherine Potter - United kingdom My most memorable skills development was sitting within the lighthouse bar on the Bund, overlooking the Pudong skyline whilst practicing some regarding the Mandarin that I had learnt on my placement.
